{"id":1212,"date":"2021-10-24T21:14:38","date_gmt":"2021-10-24T19:14:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aviationadvocacy.aero\/blog\/?p=1212"},"modified":"2021-10-24T21:14:38","modified_gmt":"2021-10-24T19:14:38","slug":"that-was-the-week-that-was-18-22-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aviationadvocacy.aero\/blog\/?p=1212","title":{"rendered":"That Was The Week That Was 18-22 October"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Life imitating Comedy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The original (and the best) That Was The Week That Was, the forerunner of all other television satire programmes, once released an LP record \u2013 oh yes, a vinyl thing of beauty \u2013 which was my introduction to its humour, ensconced as I was in rural Australia at the time.\u00a0 One of the jokes I thought then to be very funny, and ironically one of the jokes that remains both funny and blood-curdling current was a news headline: \u2018Someone broke into the Kremlin last night and stole next year\u2019s election results.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But now, in a form of life imitating comedy, consider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwto.org\/news\/unwto-wttc-wtm-ministers-summit-commits-to-investing-in-tourism-s-sustainable-future\">this press release<\/a> from the UNWTO.&nbsp; It is a joint release from the UNWTO but also the World Tourism Market \u2013 a commercial conference event \u2013 and the WTTC, an NGO.&nbsp; It tells us now what has happened in mid-November.&nbsp; The UNWTO, various tourism ministers and industry has committed (a sentence that only makes sense in the future past tense) to invest in tourism\u2019s future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a general comment, it is a good rule of thumb that statements only make sense if the reverse of it also makes sense.&nbsp; The reverse of this sentence, that the entire tourism industry is not going to invest in tourism, is one such example.&nbsp; It would make no sense at all for that to be true.&nbsp; Or, if it was to be true (also, note here the use of the future past tense) it would be news.&nbsp; Otherwise, not so much&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iata.org\/en\/pressroom\/2021-releases\/2021-10-22-02\/\">This press release<\/a>, on the other hand, from IATA is also comment-worthy, this time for what it did not say, but merely passive-aggressively implied.&nbsp; After a two week \u2013 two week!
