Our personal favourites include the gloriously cheerful FABs (Functional Airspace Blocks) and GLADs (Global Aviation Dialogues). Or how about SARPs (Standards And Recommended Practices), which frankly suggests a doctor\u2019s appointment is needed.\r\n\r\nNo new aviation initiative would be complete without its own abbreviation. Yes, the question on everyone\u2019s lips is: what will ICAO\u2019s Global Market Based Mechanism (GMBM) be called?<!--more-->\r\n\r\nSuggestions so far have included International Aviation Global Offsetting (IAGOF), Carbon Offsetting Scheme for International Aviation (COSIA) and Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Civil Aviation (CORSICA). The current favourite seems to be COSIA.\r\n\r\nWe think they can do better than that. So, here are some suggestions:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>Carbon Offsetting by Air Lines (COAL)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>aeroNautical OffseTting ProgrAm for Reducing the Impact of its emiSsions (NOT PARIS)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Aviation Reduction Scheme for Emissions (we\u2019ll leave you to work that one out yourself\u2026)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>or how about embracing the recent trend for using numbers in place of words and naming it Airlines for Offsetting Carbon (A4OCO2)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nThink you can do better? Add your suggestions below.
