That Was The Week That Was 03-07 July 2023

Here are the answers to last week’s quiz

There was some confusion this week regarding the quiz, because it assumed you would know that the UK tabloid newspaper, The Daily Mail, is a hotbed of extreme right-wing rhetoric and the continuous pushing of anti-European thinking.  It was very close to the very centre of the campaign in favour of Brexit.  Those of you lucky enough to have lived this long and not come across it will lose several points this week, the week that was, but gain a life less stressed, less horrid and more lovely, so, swings and roundabouts really…

  1. Yes: The Daily Mail does hate foreigners, and Europeans in particular
  2. Yes: The Daily Mail thinks that any strikes should be punishable by death
  3. No: Facts do not matter to the Daily Mail, if it can stir up hatred of striking Europeans bonus point: Yes ‘striking Europeans’ means any European that can spell the word ‘strike’ in either English or their native tongue – the act of withdrawing labour is irrelevant
  4. Yes: Air traffic controllers are a particular target because they can RUIN OUR HOLIDAYS
  5. No: By ‘our holidays’ the Daily Mail does not mean the holidays of any non-British holiday-maker
  6. Yes: Controllers striking, airport staff striking, pilots striking, or ay of these groups thinking about striking, or discussing striking, or being able to spell ‘strike’ are all part of a running-dog-lackey-Communist-lapdog conspiracy to RUIN OUR HOLIDAYS
  7. Yes: One of the unions at Eurocontrol’s Network Manager has given notice of the possibility of a strike within the next six months, but no dates are set
  8. Yes: Eurocontrol does have a new DG, who is yet to be tested on industrial issues
  9. No: The Network Manager not operating due to industrial action will not cancel any flights
  10. Yes: The Daily Mail is, of course, worried about ruined British holidays, which will be taken in Europe
  11. Bonus point: No, the Daily Mail is not famous for its sense of irony

With summer and the risk of RUINED HOLIDAYS in full swing TWTWTW will now also take a summer break.  See you in September.  Have a great summer.
