That Was The Week That Was: 13 – 20 May

Here are the answers to last week’s quiz*:
  1. No, the Nuremburg Defence is not appropriate in a discussion of air services agreements
  2. The correct wording of the test is ‘Ownership AND Control’. Score only half a point if your answer on the airlines’ response to Brexit failed to mention both halves of this threshold
  3. ‘Every man for himself’ is not ICAO’s summary of the basic tenant of Buddhism. It is, however, a fair summary of ICAO’s cyber-security policy guidance
  4. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the country that believes that petroleum is a sustainable fuel source. The cheering from the side lines from the US, China and India was nothing more than diplomatic nicety.  Lose half a point if you thought that it was more cynically motivated than that
  5. WH Auden is the modern poet that first noted that outer space is beyond the reach of ICAO’s writ. Rockets will, however, need to traverse the bits of the infinite universe that aircraft, from time-to-time, utilise and thus need to be subject to ICAO’s SARPs.  This was noted first in lumpen prose in ICAO papers, but versified by McNeice – score two points if you named both poets
  6. When exiting via cracked windows, pilots are not required to be wearing their hat
  7. The correct name for the 1,000 mile stare being shown in the photo of CANSO’s European executive is ‘RP3’ – no variation on those three letters will suffice
  8. The correct answer is France. We will not accept Voldemort; nor is the airline Air Voldemort.  Football is not played at the Stade de Voldemort
  9. We will accept any answer you think appropriate outlining your thoughts on the Airport Charges Directive study conducted by Steer Davis Gleave. There is a bonus point if you mention the exact phrase ‘Competition is the best regulator’
  10. There is only one acceptable answer to question 10.   Work is the curse of the drinking class
*With apologies to the late John Clarke
